This might be why you're able to "just improvise", heh. ^^ (...) Back in the old days when I started improvising on piano (before I even knew the word "improvise"), it was also a lot of somewhat random noise with me just trying to find the right key to play. But I got better and better over time. Now I can sometimes compose some of my best songs from improvising. For instance, my song Sunset has some of its own history with how it came to be, but I would say that some parts of the song were made from my improvisations. And yes, my perfect pitch is definitely helpful. I have no idea where I would be today if it weren't for my perfect pitch, but I think I probably would've been a different person. You're right on the fact that performing music on piano is a lot more real time compared to writing a tracker music. But I would say that there are advantages and disadvantage with both improvising on that piano and tracking and this could vary from person to person. For me personally, I find that playing piano while making an audio recording is a very quick way to transfer my ideas onto something that preserves it. But when making a music in a tracker software or something like that and I'm entering the notes with a non-realtime step-by-step "method", I would often lose some good ideas and it makes it a bit hard for me to continue writing because my remaining ideas might turn into some garbage. But that doesn't mean I can't make music with a "non-realtime step-by-step method". In the beginning of my unfinished "5/4 Fmaj7" song, I actually just entered the notes in MuseScore, step by step and I didn't have piano with me when I started writing the song. But later on, I actually improvised on piano a bit, to help myself write the song further. I'm happy with how the song turned out so far and some people have listened to it and loved it! |

Oooooh... I just stumbled upon the thread :3 Well, my response isn't exactly tracker music related since I don't compose tracker music at the moment. I have multiple methods of composing music. I often improvise on piano to spawn some new ideas and just let it flow. I would make recordings of my improvisations so I can preserve whatever I played. Also, people say that I'm a gifted musician, which might say something |
