There is an XMPP MUC (multi-user chat, basically a group chat) related to this forum called The Voxelmanip MUC. It is a public room everyone can join, with the implication that if anyone stumbles upon the forums and wants to join it, they can get an invite by joining and introducing yourself there to get to know people. How that is going to actually work out I don't know, but I just like XMPP in general.

XMPP works a bit like email. You register on an XMPP server, then you get a handle that basically looks like an email address, username@server. And then you log in with an XMPP client and can talk to anyone regardless of the server they are on, or join group chats (which are called MUCs in XMPP terminology).

If anyone needs suggestions for getting started:
- Clients: Personally on desktop I use Gajim which exists for Windows, macOS and Linux. Then on Android I use Conversations which is available on F-Droid.
- Servers: I host my own XMPP server with Prosody which is not too hard to do if you're a sysadmin type, but otherwise you can check this list for a list of public XMPP servers. I have an alt account on tchncs.de's XMPP server, but it may have some issues as olive pointed out in the thread.

I have recently moved away from tchncs.de for XMPP, as I was having gradually worse problems with chat history not working in some semi-public MUCs where for everyone else it would. I am not sure if this is entirely tchncs.de's fault, but I just want to caution.

Ah, I see. I have an alt account on tchncs.de which I've used during times when my own XMPP server has been out of commission (like when I moved from OVH to Hetzner) and I haven't had any issues with that one, but I also have barely used it either.
