So I decided we should probably have a new thread dedicated for introductions. Introducing yourself is of course optional but it would be nice to hear from new people as they are joining.

Existing members can also reintroduce themselves here if they want to.

ohai! I'm Arisotura, if you don't know me I'm related to the ROM hacking and emulation communities. I'm namely the author of melonDS.

I found this board while looking for Acmlmboards, interestingly (which was sparked by a thread at Jul). I see that this board isn't an Acmlmboard but a lookalike, that's interesting! I do use a custom Acmlmboard fork myself, it's based on Acmlmboard 2.0a1 -- I was drawn to it for the simplicity of the codebase.

I also gotta add, this board's visual theme has an uncanny resemblance to the melonDS site. I wonder if you took inspiration from there? The background is different, but same idea, and the color scheme is very similar. Amusing.

Oh hey! Really cool seeing you here :D (I genuinely did not expect you to show up and was shocked when I got the RSS post notification while eating dinner)

Yes, this forum nowadays runs a custom forum software called Cirrusboard that I wrote from scratch originally for a final project in secondary school. It's not Acmlmboard but it certainly still has the vibe to it, post layouts and themes and all. Unfortunately these general topic kinds of forums don't tend to be all that active nowadays (everyone likes their Discords...) but at least it is still up after over three years of it running, so that's at least something.

The melonDS forums seem to be absolutely popping though and carrying the Acmlmboard legacy, when I've talked to people and mentioned Acmlmboard they tend to simply know it as "that forum software melonDS uses".

Heh. :eyeshift: I do have to admit I maybe took a little bit of inspiration with the translucency and such. Though I did just use the same background image generator that Kak made and green is also my favourite colour so that's just the primary colour I went for the forums.

When these forums first launched I used the (Acmlmboard fork of the) ABXD default theme but recoloured to green, which is still available in the theme picker as "Voxelmanip ABXD". But after some time I wanted to spice things up with a new default theme, and this was what I came up with.

Hah, that's funny to hear! I didn't expect Acmlmboard to get known this way.

Heh, small world. I used that same generator to produce my background.

Fun related fact, the melonDS site theme was originally blue. I later thought it looked better in green, and changed it.

You can see the old variant via archive.org. It's also available on the board, but the board variants of the theme are slightly different (for one, I thought getting rid of the 2px borders around tables made it feel less cluttered visually).

Regardless, I guess I'll see if this board is active and if I can talk about fun stuff. I also run a board (Kuribo64) but that one is pretty dead these days. It's just sticking around for the sake of nostalgia, really.

EDIT- had a look at the theme list. I got the feeling the theme preview thingy wasn't working too well, but maybe it was just the server being a bit slow. It's fun seeing my old Green Night theme in there. I had forgotten about it... I can remember it being the default theme at Kuribo64 for a while, before the Kuribo64 theme (Nostalgia) was made. There was even an earlier version of the Green Night theme on the older Kuribo64 site/board.

Either way, fun fun. I kinda want to backport the old Daily Cycle theme that AB1.x had, I have nostalgia for that one.

Ah yeah I do remember that, blue and maybe a bit purple-ish. Back before there was any proper logo and the header was just a big "melonDS" link. It's been a bit fun having had my sight on melonDS before it became really big and basically achieved total domination over the DS emulation scene.

Please do! It would be great to have you here (I assume you have also found the page for generating invite codes), but no pressure. :) There's... the occasional other member who shows up every once in a while but other than that it's pretty inactive unfortunately. I have tried in various ways to convince friends and acquaintances to join here but they are either those who are happy using Discord, or they are on XMPP and the Fediverse instead. Forums don't even register on their radar, unless they need to ask about something and begrudgingly register on some support forum.

Also I'm happy you're still keeping the original Kuribo64 board up after all these years, even though melonDS has ended up sorta overshadowing the main website it's hosted under. The nostalgia needs to live on. And Staryu Trek seems to have singlehandedly caused a mini-insurgence in activity that even got me to stop lurking after almost a decade and make an account there. Not completely dead, unlike what Kafuka seems to be now.

I also remember Green Night being the default theme in the old version of Kuriblog that's floating around on the Internet. Nice and simple green theme, I've always been fond of it which was why I've kept it around (in addition to fitting with Voxelmanip Forums' green primary colour). I think @Heredos still has it set as their theme on the forums.

Also don't know what's up about that. The dynamic theme preview is just a single line of JavaScript that changes the URL of the theme CSS (should not be too dissimilar to what 2.064 does), and the theme files are like a kilobyte or so.

Oh, yeah. The dynamic preview is working fine now. I think it was just because the server was being slow...

Anyway, yeah. I could invite some people over here, not sure they'd be very active tho.

Also, yeah, melonDS has gotten pretty popular. I'd never have expected that tbh... I think wifi emulation played a lot in this.

I've already been a member on the server for like three years  but I'm foodyummy, although I'm known as gotredstone everywhere else.

just wanted to drop by to say I'm on the XMPP server, so if you're autistic enough to figure out how XMPP works (like me) then I'll be seein' ya there :D

The Voxelmanip MUC is basically empty... But you're free to join of course.

I realise XMPP is very much not a popular platform. But compared to IRC where I used to have a channel for here (which was basically dead on arrival) it has at least a slim chance of people being able to use it. IRC is pure text basically needs you to have a bouncer to stay in the loop, while XMPP can handle disconnects, has file attachment support, profile pictures, E2E encryption (though that isn't applicable to public rooms where people come and go), etc...

(As for client suggestions: On desktop I use Gajim which exists for Windows, macOS and Linux. On Android I use Conversations which is available on F-Droid)

As for other chat platforms... I'm pretty jaded from it all at this point. Discord is normie central but still pretty usable... For now. Matrix is dysfunctional and full of spam. Telegram is sketchy, don't really like it. Signal would be good if it didn't require you to stay tethered to a phone to keep an account active (in addition to giving them your phone number... "private" and "secure") so it goes into the sketch box as well. And then all you have left is email.
