In the early days of Voxelmanip Forums when it was running on an extremely funky version of Acmlmboard 2.5, there was an issue with how it encoded text in the database. Basically, it would connect to the database using latin1, but the database itself stored things in utf8mb4. Somehow, this did not affect the usage of Unicode characters. Until when I noticed this, and tried to change the connection encoding to utf8mb4, which ended up breaking such Unicode characters. I decided that doing things correctly going forward was better than staying in this limbo. So a lot of older posts will contain some so-called Mojibake. Some funky accented characters where it shouldn't be, and such. Of course this would only possibly affect like what, 500 posts, shouldn't be that difficult to fix it all? That's what I thought too. But there is also some in older members' profiles and sometimes I don't even know what the intended character is supposed to be. So if you read older threads and posts and see some Mojibake, please post in this thread pointing to it, and also an educated guess of what the intended character is supposed to be, in a way where I could copy-paste it. |
