So back in December after I released Tensy I began work on a new project for a game idea I've been wanting to make for a very, very long time. A water physics simulation game where you control a puddle of water by tilting the world, like the old WiiWare game Hydroventure I played as a kid. I published a blog post by the end of the month, detailing the process of the game's development up to that point: Getting the physics simulation with Box2D set up, getting it running on my Android phone, shader-based water rendering, then making a custom OpenGL renderer from scratch, making a camera system, etc... Recently I have then published a video on YouTube showing the current progress of the game in a slightly larger test map, featuring antialiased rendering and MSDF-based text rendering: I'll hopefully keep working on it, but progress is becoming a bit slower. The last thing I was working on is trying to optimise the OpenGL renderer further as doing no drawcall batching makes it start to tank on mobile as the map expands, but have been running into issues with doing that - a bunch of lines just don't show up anymore (click to enlarge). ![]() I'll need to read more up about OpenGL stuff, most likely. |
