Some people seem to quite enjoy playing it and I fail to see why. What's so fun about driving?

Admiring landscapes slowly changing as you go, while still having to pay attention to other cars and finding wether you prefer the most efficient road or the nicest one. it's all about how you want to like it

(heh I wonder who you were implying with Some people :eyeshift: )

Don't you find it appealing to drive around with a truck and a double trailer at 150km/h throughout Europe? No? Well how about going into the developer camera and teleporting your truck and going offroads, then falling out of bounds into the void!

Seriously though the map is very expansive (not even taking into account unofficial mods that extend the map like ProMods) and rather high quality with good looking cities and landscapes, it's nice to just play it and put something on to listen to in the background as you do drive throughout Europe, taking deliveries as you go.

...It also has this thing where it keeps track of all the roads you've ever been on, and of course it quickly becomes very addicting (at least to me <_< ) to drive through the entire map and discover every single part of the roads and prefabs on the map.

Oh yeah and this is a bit of an extra thing but the map editor is also pretty fun to play with, building your own fictional cities, scenery and road networks using the wealth of models and other assets from the base game along with all the map DLCs.

Sales figures and reception for the first Gran Turismo on the PS1 clearly show a lot of people enjoy driving games... :P

There are also people that genuinely find the idea of driving a lorry all over Europe as a fun thing in general.

I mean, that's why people sometimes choose it as a career. xD

I personally find driving irl (cars ofc) and in games as fun in general, which is probably the audience ETS2 is targeted at. Some don't and that's alright, but ETS2 is a pretty finicky but also fun game to mess with sometimes imo.

So it's basically Desert Bus for PC. But with more interesting scenery.

That "basically" is carrying three thousand tonnes of responsibility  by "more interesting scenery" there is a pretty damn close recreation of a lot of European road networks as well as cities. Think Google Street View except more immersive because it's a lot more dynamic than 360 degree stills you can switch between.

Whether that is of interest to someone depends I guess. I was quite into it a couple years ago but I haven't played much recently.
